Tips jackshaft
- Over View- operation
- USE OIL/GAS MIXTURE ONLY!!!!!!
ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Jackshaft requires very light throttle between shifts
and re-engaging from a coast.
- To RIDE- Always pedal a little
before engaging clutch when first getting the bike to move. Always start
in 1st or 2nd.
You can go as fast as a standard motorbike in 3rd gear
about 25-28mph. You have 4 more gears! DO NOT LUG THE ENGINE! We highly
recommend that you learn to ride the bike in just 1st- 3rd.
- Starting the Motor- You will
need to practice this. ALWAYS start in 1st. Pedal bike to 2-3
mph then stop pedaling w/pedals at 3 & 9 o’clock. Engage the clutch.
Pedal HARD and FAST, while twisting throttle a little. AS SOON AS IT STARTS, PULL IN CLUTCH.
- Left pedal has LEFT-HAND
threads
- RIDING- Don’t wheelie, de-railer chain will come off. Need to always “EASE” throttle between
shifts. USE CLUTCH ONLY TO START. Once moving, throttle up in each gear
and let off on throttle, click to next gear, then “EASE” throttle back up.
This is a dance, a learning experience. Remember on down hills and from
coasting, bring throttle up slowly until motor catches up with your
speed and the freewheel. That way you don’t pound the gear set!
- COLD STARTING-
Choke is up and depress “tickler” until gas drips. Pedal in first gear
ONLY. Pull clutch in as soon as motor starts. Take choke off in steps,
as you rev the motor a little, checking for crisp (proper fuel/air mixture
for current engine temperature) response. Let motor warm up for at least 3
MINUTES, so it runs crisp with throttle blips with choke fully off. Motor
works better and better as it warms and as it breaks in.
- Gas cock has no
reserve. Get a speedo/odometer
and fill tank ever 75 miles or sooner.
- ALWAYS TURN GAS
COCK OFF WHEN NOT RIDING!!!! YOU MAY FLOOD THE ENGINE.
- DON’T TAKE OFF WITH
CLUTCH ONLY….. EVER!
- BREAK IN MOTOR
RIGHT!!.. ( no full-bore, but for brief
times) Also, best to take short
rides 10-15 minutes for first tank of gas and then let the engine cool
down. Keep it below 20mph for 200 miles and don’t let it run at idle (in
hot traffic) for more than the average light to turn.
- Careful pedaling
while moving fast…don’t let your feet slip OFF! And no 30mph corners..tires are too
skinny.
- Run 7-8 OZs synthetic
2-stroke oil w/ each gallon of gas for 200 miles…then 51/2- 6 OZs/GAL
- May need to adjust
freewheel drive chain after first few rides by loosening all engine mounts
and turns nuts on adjuster rod (extra long rod included too). No need to ,loosen bottom adjuster bracket. It takes very
little adjustment and DON’T OVER TIGHTEN THE DRIVE CHAIN. Re-tighten
mounts nuts.
- Check all nuts,
bolts and fasteners, including jackshaft set screws for tightness before
riding and often after riding. Use RED locktite
and let set for 2-3 hours.
- Get a mirror,
lights, and obey the rules of the road…and have FUN!!
