Honda 4- stroke
Misc Tips:
- See link to Honda motor
instructions at www.scgreenmotors.com/docs/Honda-man.pdf
- Please follow all engine
maintenance schedules in your Honda Booklet (in packaging material and in the
pdf file
- Stage III “Whopper Stopper” Grubee gearbox maintenance- every 1000-3000 miles remove 7
screws of gearbox cover and re-pack with Marine Grease. Pack behind “engager” gear and around
“planetary” (middle) gear. Gears
just lift straight out. Don’t
pack around clutch hub area.
Remove the clutch center bolt and remove the center bushing to clean
and lube with anti-seize. Clean old grease around clutch hub and spray pads
area with a little brake cleaner. Use RED locktite
to reassemble center bolt and torque to 65 inch lbs.
- Inflate tires to 30-35lb max and
adjust your brake. Band brake
(rear) will need adjustment before riding.
- Adjust Chain with only top roller-
adjust at tight spot in chain ONLY- move roller up only 1/8-1/4” at a time. Do
not over tighten chain.
- Always keep gas off at carb when not in use
- Left peal has LEFT-HAND
threads.
- COLD STARTING- Turn
on both gas valve (tank and top of carb) Push choke
lever to right (top of carb). Make sure clutch “engager” lever is
out (second lever down on handle bar) This allows you
to rev the motor without the centrifugal clutch “engaging”. To drive, engage
lever after you pedal 3-4 mph, then continue pedalling a bit using a small
amount of gas until the clutch is running smoothly. You acn also pick up
rear wheel & pull in engaager ONLY at idle!- or you could damage
clutch/drive sprocket (woodruff key shears) or bike may jump) Use locking pin
down- NOTE**Most riders, once they get use to their machine will leave
“engager” lever pulled “in” with pin down holding lever in all the time- Just
learn not to touch throttle on start-up and just let it warm up at idle speed.
Pull on starter cord slowly at first and start pull at the point of
resistance. Take choke off
ASAP. Let motor warm up for at
least 2 minutes. New engager cables will
stretch so if while riding, your machine gearbox starts to make noise, stop
and re-adjust the engager cable.
- RIDER’S TIP-
On fast runs down
hills, DO NOT over-rev the motor at the bottom. It’s tough on the clutch drive
system.
- Gas cock has no
reserve! Get a speedo/odometer and meter gas usage.
- ALWAYS pedal to 2-3
mph and “ease” gas on slowly! to fully engage
centrifugal clutch DON’T TAKE OFF WITH CLUTCH ONLY….. EVER! Increase speed
slowly- Once you feel the clutch grab tTHEN you can
grab a bunch of throttle!
- Careful pedaling
while moving fast…don’t let your feet slip OFF! And no 30mph corners…..tires
are too skinny and inside corner pedal NOT DOWN (sorry…common sense
issue)
- Check all nuts,
bolts and fasteners for tightness before riding and often after
riding.
- Get a mirror,
lights, and obey the rules of the road…and have FUN!!
